Cry of the Loon

My brother has been spending the summer working at Medomak Camp,
teaching sailing, fixing, trimming, setting up and cleaning up for the
campers each week. One of the benefits for us was a swim in the lake
today, and a ride in the pontoon boat.

Later, Sean and I took two kayaks out to a little island in the middle
of the lake called Loon. And yup, we saw two loons... One sent a
mournful cry across the lake and it captivated us all, especially
Ella, my neice. The loon is one of her favorite birds (she can
probably identify a dozen species and she's only 3!) but this was the
first time she heard one in the wild. It's achingly beautiful and
captures the spirit of the north woods.

The little island had a few blueberry bushes which we tasted, and
offered a little respite in a windless cove. Then we slipped into the
wind and over the waves to the shoreline. There was a massive bald
eagle's nest in a tall pine. These little treasures keep popping up
and Sean has a real sense of wonder about them all.

PS - the "otters" we saw by the sea this morning turned out to be mink!

Oh what an incredible view! We would love to wake up to this glory. Remember to pray a rosary for the souls in Purgatory. We're so glad you are on this adventure together!

AWESOME
not in the way it is more commonly used
i mean in the way it was meant to be
AWE
Some
in other words amazing
and that island sounds like the island at the lake what with the blueberries and the eagles nest

it was different though taylor. the eagles nest was huge but it was along the shore not on the island.and the island was much smaller than ours just big enuf for a tent sized clearing in the middle a smaller one for a fire and a protective ring of bushes surrounding.
